FEATURED POET/WRITER

Lauren E. Wolk

Lauren E. Wolk is an award-winning novelist, poet, visual artist, and Associate Director at the Cultural Center of Cape Cod, MA. She is the author of the novels, Those Who Favor Fire (Random House), Wolf Hollow (Dutton/Penguin Random House) and Beyond the Bright Sea (Dutton/Penguin Random House).

Brilliantly crafted, Wolf Hollow is a haunting tale of America at a crossroads and a time when one girl’s resilience, strength, and compassion help to illuminate the darkest corners of our history.
Vivid and heart wrenching, Lauren Wolk’s Beyond the Bright Sea is a gorgeously crafted and tensely paced tale that explores questions of identity, belonging, and the true meaning of family.

Her parents were also writers involved in the arts, and at home and in school, reading and writing were encouraged. A writer of poetry from an early age, Lauren sought out and was surrounded by other writers, as she gained confidence in her own writing ability. Curiosity over where her characters lead her throughout her stories fuels her writing process.

As a teacher of poetry and fiction to writers of all ages and abilities, her focus is on the use of keen observation and fresh language; the creation of strong characters, dialogue, and a sense of place; how to get started and how to complete a work; how to be inspired and energized by one’s own work; and the importance of “twoness” in any written work—layers beneath the surface and surprises around the corner, for both writer and reader.

Lauren is an assemblage and mixed media artist who also experiments with photography and digital art. Her work as Associate Director at the Cultural Center of Cape Cod in South Yarmouth, MA involves public relations, educational outreach, development, and programming.
