🔥 FEATURED INDEPENDENT BOOKSTORE 🔥
The Norwich Bookstore, located in the Norwich Square at 291 Main Street, Norwich, Vermont, went from career-changing dream to a brick-and-mortar reality after owners, Liza Bernard and Penny McConnel, met in 1988 at a book study group. Penny was working at the Dartmouth Bookstore, then one of the oldest bookstores in the country, and Liza was an independent art consultant, graphic designer, and handwoven and knit clothing artist.
Knowing their work styles were complementary, in the early ‘90s Liza suggested they team up and venture into business together, opening a bookstore. With their knowledge of books and business, and with eyes wide open, they attended regional trade shows, visited local retail spaces, and located their bookstore’s future home where the old brick post office once stood.
In 1994, truckloads of books began filling new bookcases. August 1st marked the store’s opening day, with many appreciative and welcoming neighbors visiting. Since then, The Norwich Bookstore has become a successful and supportive business in the community, welcoming many to read, discover, shop, and enjoy.
Penny and Liza, as well as their present and past staff, care deeply about the Upper Valley and are proud of their bookstore. Visit the bookstore’s “Scrapbook” page and Facebook page for more.
